Someone expressed to me concern about going to Mass. to protest as a “free stater.” That they’ll target you if they know you’re a free stater.
Despite my observations that there’s a sign saying “Police State” at every other exit (or was it “State Police”? I forget.), I havent found that to be the case. We’ve only dealt with the cops once however.
We went down there for an End the Fed rally with a bullhorn with a Live Free or Spaz sticker and cops were unable to intimidate us and decided not to arrest.
It actually isnt in their best interests to arrest free staters. When they arrest a free stater, it draws attention to them. The kind of attention they probably dont want. They’ll get tons of phone calls and mail that they most likely dont want to have to deal with. People would likely come down and protest the arrest as well. They dont want that. And free staters are a lot less likely to pay a fine, so there’s no financial incentive to arrest a free stater. If they knew what was good for em, they’d leave free staters alone.
Maybe we’re just lucky. Maybe we got the cops on a good day. Maybe we got the nice cops. Maybe its cuz it wasnt just free staters, there were people from Mass. and Maine as well.
Maybe the cops finally realized, if we just leave em alone, they’ll come protest and leave. If they arrest you, you become a liability. It just isnt good for their PR.
Maybe Senator Maggie Hassan might be part right when she said, “There’s nothing wrong with developing systems that give good people incentives to do the right thing.”
